Scanning problem

Hi,
I've been using vistumbler for some time and it's a great product. But the other day it stopped scanning and detecting access point in the same way as it used to.

When I first start scanning it works fine but now when I start to drive around it does not detect any new APs even though I know there are new ones around. I've tried adjusting the refresh rate and the report dead delay time, but this does not make any difference.

Is there anything else I could try. I noticed that this started after I installed Version 10 beta 10, I un-installed this and gone back to version 9.8, this has not fixed it.

Help!!!! it's driving me nuts.

Cheers

Mick

hmmm thats strange.

when it happens can you try going to command prompt and running "netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid". It should return something like this
C:\Users\Andrew>netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid

Interface name : Wireless Network Connection
There are 4 networks currently visible.

SSID 1 : RanInt
Network type : Infrastructure
Authentication : WPA2-Personal
Encryption : CCMP
BSSID 1 : 00:1c:10:11:ab:87
Signal : 68%
Radio type : 802.11g
Channel : 3
Basic rates (Mbps) : 1 2 5.5 11
Other rates (Mbps) : 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54

I've created a bat file to record the netsh results, so next time it happens I'll post the results here.

thanks for the quick response

Hi Andrew
it's stopped working again.

When it works I get this:

Interface name : Wireless Network Connection
There are 3 networks currently visible.

SSID 1 : NETGEAR
Network type : Adhoc
Authentication : Open
Encryption : None
BSSID 1 : 00:1f:33:8e:d1:9c
Signal : 10%
Radio type : 802.11n
Channel : 11
Basic rates (Mbps) : 1 2 5.5 11
Other rates (Mbps) : 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54

SSID 2 : AMX Portway
Network type : Infrastructure
Authentication : Open
Encryption : WEP
BSSID 1 : c0:3f:0e:0c:4b:7e
Signal : 6%
Radio type : 802.11g
Channel : 1
Basic rates (Mbps) : 1 2 5.5 11
Other rates (Mbps) : 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54

SSID 3 :
Network type : Adhoc
Authentication : Open
Encryption : WEP
BSSID 1 : 62:1f:33:8e:d1:9f
Signal : 12%
Radio type : 802.11n
Channel : 11
Basic rates (Mbps) : 1 2 5.5 11
Other rates (Mbps) : 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54

and when it's not:

Interface name : Wireless Network Connection
There are 0 networks currently visible.

And for some strange reason, I could not get a decent GPS signal on both my PC and PDA, and the PDA was strugling to pick up APs. All connected, I wonder.

Cheers

Mick

Maybe you have a device interfering? Not sure what could cause both devices to have issues unless you have something else causing a problem.

If netsh is returning nothing (0 networks) then its not a vistumbler problem but a windows/wireless problem.

If i find something I will let you know....but i have no idea what would cause that

Hi Andrew,

on this occasion it looks like it was a piece of equipment that was causing the interference. Still doesn't explain why it's happened in the past, so I'll just have to keep an eye on it.

thanks for your help

Cheers
