Here are some Pics of the Wlan change

Post by Freebe »

OK. As i said i would put some Pictures in this ( DIY ) should they not be of intrest then the MOD should deleat them.
I have not been long using Wlan and soon found out that i has only a small range. ( yes i know ) if you use a Dish with a Client in the middle you can get good Km(s)
But for me this wa s not in question.
So i set out to find what i would need.
Here are some of my findings
First started with a bought system ( not happy with it ) range not good enough.
Secondly i started to mod it.
See some of my pics.
Now i am getting up to 3km and that is for me OK.
Had to change some of the Parts ( more than once ) but thats in the game.
Now i am getting the 3km(s ) i now need to start to understand the Problems with the Clients and Vista, for them that have XP this seems to be up-together. Vista is a kramph. ( pain in the ass )
First i could not get it to work, just like some of you on the Forum. Then i got rid of the Drivers that were on board the Vista and started from fresh. Installed the Driver for that what i was using (only ) Now it started to work.
Seems that if you have a Realtek Driver for the onboard Wlan. Then it gives you problems with the exterm ( USB ) wlan. Also ditch it.
Now install the outside ( USB ) Driver and all is OK.
Why ( Realtek ) can't come up with a dual Driver i don't know. :fake sniffle:
If you have a Realtek and a Zydas chip then you have no Problem for them both to work ( just plug-in )
If someone has a better answer then please let me know.
OK. the rest i wiil ask in the correct thread. Here are the Pictures.

Cool

I resized the pictures to half their original size because they where way to big. I may have messed up some of the descriptions (I know I am missing one)

Ohh.. I truely Appreciate the ideas! I have a similar antenna and have been going partially insane trying to come up with a mounting that does not involve drilling!

@mysticvirgo67

OK. you asked where did i get the ( suction mount ) If you need the one most of the do-it-yourself shops have it, it is for lifting Glass and it comes in a tree piece triangle.
You will have to cut it.
But i would like you to wait because i have a new base i am now using. ( Bad wether ) has stopped me from making some photos, but i will as said put them here in the next few days.
The Antenne is getting me logged in up to about 6Km. ( about 3UK miles ) :D

OK it stopped raining today and so was able to take the Pics. :D
The Pics that i have put in here are from a modified ( Kathrein Antenne ) Normaly found on a Caravan ( not Camper )
I modded it to about 30mm so as to fit only the roof of the Camper. ( mod is easaliy done ) if you can use your hands.
The small turning wheel under the roof ( see Pic ) needs only 8 turns before it is in the Vertical, and is clipped to the mast with 2 U bolts.
The BIG problem was how to get it water tight.   OK. melt some wax from a candle into the pipe and run the cable through a seperate hole with a water tight rubber ( Sat connector ) Ugh very sticky this thing.
So here are the pics.
It was modded from this one.

You can get it from most of the Do.It.Yourself. ( D.I.Y.) Shops.
It comes with 3 suckers you will have to cut it yourself. ( no big problem :) )
or you might try the Glass Shop in your Area.
