Icon Sugestions

Post by mysticvirgo67 »

############################# EDIT BY ACALCUTT #############################
This is a thread for all icon suggestions. I have moved all our current suggestions into this thread.
###########################################################################

Been using GIMP to process screenshots today. that is coming along very nicely

I tried using Gimp to work on a logo, but it is more image processor than drawing tool. So went to OpenOfficeDraw to draw a logo and it has very basic drawing ability. Did well enough drawing a 4 color quadranted circle then exported to Gimp for refining the logo.. not happy. I was wanting to add a black outline around the logo and the crossbars of the quadrants but Gimp doesn't have that tool. I suppose I could find a Gimp add-on that covers that or find ANOTHER freeware tool that can do that.

I googled about and found a pretty good online logo generator that I did this Mystic WiFi logo with. Screen capped the page, extracted the logo with paint then did a little cleanup with Gimp. I think it will take a bit of time to find just the right graphic that captures "mystical" and "geocaching". I would like to keep the Vistumbler feel to the text of the banner by using the same fonts you are using with Vistumbler.. will that be okay?

I am considering using shades of green as the color theme for the Mysticache page. I think that would be nice.

It has often been said that the most time consuming phase of software development is documentation... Definitly a truism.

I've been messing around with some ideas

I wanted to emphasize the geo part, so I decided to use a globe with some gridlines
I also tried to incorporate the geocaching colors

I ended up using elements from the geocaching.com logo, but i'm not sure about using those

I can always go bac to that log generator site and try a few more.. ummm.. I think the lettering is a bit large, though. I could erase them and go something smaller pitch

I like the arrows and circles. I messed with adding the arrows in (I thought the circles may be to much with my logo)

the nice thing about the arrows is they also scale well to 64x64 for the small icon

Oh! That works! Umm can you thicken the borgers of the quadrent squares and maybe go with darker shades of color? Just doesn't "POP"

Yea, it is difficult to tell the orange from the yellow... maybe place the orange and yellow quadrants diagonal across from eachother?

Yep Like the logo alot, as I had said... I still like My tagline suggestion "Finds Them All" . Geocachers do indeed want to find them all. We know we can't but we still have the urge.

website favicons are usually 16x16 pixels. The icon in the top left corner of the mysticache window is also 16x16.

I find getting down to that size and still representing something is difficult. In vistumbler I made a different icon for 16x16

this is what it would look like at 16x16

Had to tell the outline of the dcircle on the first, so I vote the second.
