Help with Cameras + Tutorials

Post by ChuckE »

I'm new to Vistumbler and haven't found much for instruction or tutorials. On the settings tab is a choice that says "Set Cameras". What is that for and how is it used?
I don't get lost. Where I'm going gets lost.....

The "Camera(s)" tab was experimental. Basically I had two concepts I was testing.

The first was a way to pull an image from a webcam, or multiple webcams. Basically you would put in the url that you wanted vistumbler to download...and it would download them at an interval.

The second option was "Camera Trigger Script". This option would run an external application that would trigger the cameras to take a picture.

I had done a few test runs with different setups.

The first setup I made can be seen here ( http://www.techidiots.net/pictures/proj ... er-car-cam ). This used the first method... using webcams. It wasn't the best, but it was a good test. We made a video with the images we took here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWhR4twojVQ )

From the webcam test I moved to multiple cannon A720 cameras with CHDK modified firmwares. Using the modified firmware I set up a usb trigger. Then I used a usb relay board to trigger the cameras. I made a basic trigger application ( https://github.com/RIEI/Vistumbler/tree ... CamTrigger ) so vistumbler could initiate taking the pictures on all cameras. We made this video... which also attempted to stitch the seperate images into panoramic images ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DipRg-rjLvw )

With this Winbook and its two cameras, I'm trying to figure out if there's some way for Vistumbler to access them. Have no idea what I'd do with that feature, but I just seems that I have to try... Any ideas?

Sorry for the slow replies recently. I've gotten a bit sidetracked building and flying some FPV drones. I'll have to look at the camera stuff again myself as I'm not sure where I left off with that.

I don't think the first camera feature that downloads from a webcam works that well for more than one camera and I may have taken out the export that included the camera images. I'll have to look into that. To use this feature you would have to find a way to set up your webcam so the image could be access through a url (maybe something like http://www.yawcam.com/ )

The other option will just run a script at an interval. I had used it with a program to trigger a usb relay, but it could be used with a program that does anything, like one to trigger windows to take a picture.

I've looked at taking a picture from a webcam before, but if i remember right I had issues accessing more than one camera at a time.

I am following your FPV drone progress. I don't have the disposable income to invest in one right now, but I did get an FAA drone registration and tail number a few months ago when they were still free...
