Now that I see where you are headed, I must say that looks really good! Mind posting this beta so I can explore it?

Ummm since we are not needing use of Netsh, will this be XP friendly??

Thanks for using decimal minutes. I think it would be a nicer appearance and a little more user friendly if you could insert a space between the degrees and the minutes. Yeah that would be much easier to read.

Add a column titled "GC #" 7- Character alphnumeric between names and notes. I think Notes should be after the coords column.

I was dwelling on format for saves... Geocachers prefer .GPX Could this be the default save format?
This will allow easy importation of waypoints from the geocaching.com site.

I forgot to mention to include the .LOC file format as well. Sorry.

I would assume that it is XP friendly CommMG, NETcommOCX, and Kernel32 all work in in XP for the GPS.

See I wasn't certain if XP palyed well with all of those or not. Thanks for the moment of clarity, Phil.

Ya know this all would be eaiser if we had Vistumbler chat LOL

Not quite ready for a beta test...still need to get a few things working (just teasing you now ;-) )

This should be fully compatible with xp (haven't tried it yet, but there isn't anything the requires vista)

What does "GC #" represent ? GeoCache Number? You only want to support 7 characters?

I made the default decimal minutes, but DDD and DMS are options (though right now this is only settable by config file). The inputs should support any type of input (DDD,DMM,DMS)

I can see about supporting loading from GPX. export to GPX shouldn't be hard since i already do that in vistumbler . I can also look into Loc

ok...got the basic functions working again i think.

here is my preview

Things that do not work yet
- Delete waypoint button does nothing right now
- Recovering MDB does not load old waypoints back into the GUI yet
- Anything not in the GUI (Exporting/Importing). Features you just asked for have not yet been added
- Saving of column position or width
- Column sorting

Excllent! GPX import works well!
LOC import / export important too

Here is format data:

<loc version="1.0" src="Groundspeak">
<waypoint>

Guide My Sword by DeeWhoa

<coord lat="37.895733" lon="-84.5754"/>
<type>Geocache</type>

</waypoint></loc>

and here is a sample file

Yeah this is awsome, I been playing with it I like the auto distance and bearing updating... Wicked!
Question about the notes section, Does auto IT allow linkng to webpages? I store the simple versions of the geocache webpages internally for reference. being able to access these through the notes section would be a nice detail. If it doesn't, that would be cool, too...

Added column for links
Added Import from LOC
Various GUI and error fixes

lol...at least we are thinking along the same lines. I had noticed my test gpx and loc files both had geocache urls and already was implenting it. right now it only loads from a gpx and loc file, but I plan to add a link fiel to the add and edit waypoint guis.

kewl...Dude, I thik we are proof of Einstiens "spooky action at a distance' LOL
MC 2A3 is not playing well when entering a blank field. Variable not declared errors. I thnk an error trap is needed with a "please enter value into field" popup or something similar.

Tried using the manual waypoint last night and this morning. I am not sure if the caclulations are working quite right.
I enterd coords for a cache nearby, distance should be somewhere around 10 Km, but it is showing 900KM. I entered through the add/edit waypoint window in decimal minutes (both with Cut n paste and direct entry) .
Here is a link to caches in Rutherford that you can use to see if you can replicate this error..

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest. ... 2&dist=100

I will play with MC2A4 and see how it behaves.

Minor "polishing" --- The "start GPS position" may need to be shifted to the right. It is cutting off the latitude values on the main console.

YEah there is something a little screwy going on when entering coords with DDmm.mmmm.. Seems like it is in the DDmm.mmmm to DD.ddddd conversion? The math is definetly off... Entered cache coords for a cache I KNOW is no more than 3KM away and the distance MC is giving is more than 900KM!!!
Have we stumbled upon wormhole technology??? LOL
MC2A4 is doing same as MC2A3

When you are using DMM are you making sure to only use four places after the decimal place? if you don't it will treat it as decimal.

yes I am being very careful about that.. N 37° 53.713 W 084° 34.081
I strip the degree marks and the cardinals...

I was playing wiht version 0.8 I think it is a usefull enough tool to be published as version 1alpha8 .. Destination is misspelled in the GUI but other than that, I think it is good...

I notice on the geocachine website their DMM is show like this (N 42° 22.581). In mysticache it should be entered like this (N 42 22.5810) or (N 4222.5810).

Basically The input accepts 3 formats
DDD.DDDDDDD
DDDMM.MMMM
DD°MM'SS"

The input boxes accept (+ or -) or (N,S,E,W) before the position. Spaces are stripped out in conversion, so spaces can be placed anywhere (like how you wanted a space in DMM, N 36 45.0000 would be valid)

Internally I always use DMM format because that is what i am getting from the gps. In exports i usually use DDD, because that is what most formats want you to use.

you would want to enter N 37 53.7130 W 084 34.0810 for it to be treated as DMM

MCV2A4 math error?

Post by mysticvirgo67 » Mon Nov 09, 2009 12:20 pm

Here is cap of the error.. I think maybe a misplaced decimal somewhere?? The test coords is a location between 3 and 5 Km from my home coords.

Widened Buttons in the GUI to fit text better

And no...delete waypoint isn't working yet. I'll probably add that next.
gps seems to be working for me (was it possibly defaulted back to kernel32)

I thought of that ... Switched between the three... No response with kernal or OCX.. which is normal with my GPSr.. I get dings from netcomm and running as script is not showing any error messages.

I'll piddle with alpha6 next day or so. Planning a field test of alpha4 tommorrow.

Yeah Alpha 4 is running fine and plays happily with with my GPSr.. no operational issues.

After I finish the basics of the program (which i don't think is actually to far away) I am probably going to port over AutoKML to mysticache

Basically I am thinking It will have current position, waypoints, and maybe an option to draw lines from the current gps out to all the waypoints.

Maybe also have a field to indicate waypoint type, with each type having its own icon in the kml

Hopefully soon I will have the GPX file from Mysticache supported in WiFiDB so you can store and share your caches.
This will need a user login (which is another thing I'm working on adding in)
I Plan on having something where you can have a users 'private' caches and then have the option to share individual ones to a public cache.
Also there will be the typical Export to KML and an additional Export to GPX (so you can import them back into Mysticache)

I was just thinking phil... your going to need a new name for the WiFiDB soon... Your going to be storing more than APs now

And I'm going to need a new vistumbler name... now that windows 7 is out, I think for now the Vistumbler name stays though...unless i find something I like better.

Gee, I kinda started something, huh? LOL.. I've been told I am good for that!
Gee Phill, did you get lonley? ha ha ha
Andrew, AutoKML will rock.. Don't need to get too fancy on the graphics, though. I have been using GoogleEarth to manually enter caches for a few weeks.. I have been using a simple color coding for found, Didn't find (DNF) and haven't looked yet (green, red, yellow)
There are currently 4 types of caches and 5 size classifications
the types are:

Traditional (indicated by a little green ammo box icon). Go to posted coords and start looking about

Multi-Stage ( a pair of little yellow ammo boxes). Posted coords are the starting point. Look for a 'cachetainer'
containing coords to next stage leading to a final cache

Puzzle/mystery/offset ( a blue questionmark) These are caches where the seeker will have to solve some form of mathematical puzzle and apply the results to the posted coords to get the final coords. These can be really fun or really aggravating. The offset version is simple, you are given the starting coords, then given a bearing and distance. Some require getting numbers off of a nearby structure.

One of the caches I had placed several years ago had the seekers visit the page of a "virtual" Enigma machine from WWII , set the machine and decode the written out final coords. Oh I got so many KUDOS for that one!

The fourth type is an "Earth Cache" ( a sectioned globe) where the goal is to get cachers to answer questions and take a photo of themselves based on interesting geological features at the posted coords.

The final type are"Virtual Caches" where the coordinates lead to a location of historical interest and the cachers have to email the poster with answers to questions posted on the cache page.

The size catagories are
nano (roughly 1cubic centimeter), Micro (35 mm film can, pill bottle, weatherproof matchholder, ect.) , small ( like a tupperware sandwich box), medum ( typiclly volume of a 7.62 mm ammocan), Large ( volume of 50 mm ammocan to 5 gallon paint bucket to beyond) and N/A (either no container, a magnetic decal/lable with writing surface on back, or otherwaise not applial to the other catagories)

ummm for autoKML, we would be best off sticking to the cache types. Letters would be good for now.. T for traditional, M for multi, P for puzzle, V for Virtual and E for earth cache .

To indicate Found, DNF and Not Attempted, may I suggest green, red, and either black or white.. whichever gives best contrast with GE.

I am not completely enthralled with the GUI cachepage link column unless we could have the GUI open the link when selected.. I am not the AutoIT master, so I don't know if this is simply done, if at all. No worries if it isn't.

Add checkboxes or such in the add waypoint and edit waypoint GUI's for Found (FND), Did not Find (DNF), and Not Yet Attempted (NYA) with NYA the default. OF course add column in main GUI for that.

Andrew, you and Phil have gps's I suggest you guys go try finding a few caches. The local caching association might be really interested in what we are doing....

Re Vistumbler....I like that name too... implies the visualisation aspect of the program. Winstumbler would work, but then there would be the expectation of playing well with XP

Well... Vistumbler is supposed to represent Vista and (net)Stumbler, but I guess we could change that to mean Visual.

my aim is in my forum profile. I don't do yahoo anymore
Andrew, you and Phil have gps's I suggest you guys go try finding a few caches.
I don't think I have the motivation to go out and find a cache...lol. At least with wardriving all you need to do is drive around....

Actually, my wife isn;t the hiking type.. you would be astonished how many caches are hidden behind guardrails and under lightpole basecovers.
I like the Vistumbler name as it is as well...
Oh, I don't do aim ACK! Personal grudge against AOL for what they did to ICQ... Took a nice simmple 'homey' messenger and bloated the hell out of it... oh and the dozens of AOL installs I had to pry out of other peoples systems. What the heck they do?? sneak nanobots in to weld the code onto harddrives???

I also use msn. I added that to my profile.

I use gtalk also, but I don't know anyone who actually uses it. To me the provider doesn't matter. I've used Digsby as my chat client for a while now. I used trillian for a long time before that (even made a few skins for it).

I used to use yahoo and icq, but nobody I know uses those anymore

do you think its to much to add a couple more columns for (Difficulty, Terrain, Cache Type, Author). I want to take the description/name string that I am currently putting into notes (e.g. "Fish Stories by CentralCArn, Traditional Cache (1.5/1.5)") and split that out into (Name, Author, Cache type, Dificulty, Terrain). This would allow "Notes" to be used for something useful (like personal notes)

Eventually I will probably add a column (enable/disable/width) settings window so the columns you don't want can be disabled

No that woud be a good idea, andrew. That would be good. it wold provide more "sort and find" abilities later.

I noticed that the loc import can only take 84 or so caches.
I am happy you and phil are having a good time with this.

Adding the Mysicache support to WiFiDB was Andrews idea.
over the weekend I was working on the User log-ins and couldn't think of anything else to add in, so I asked Andrew for some ideas lol

I had also posted an update to the Mysicache support last night, still a little more work, but the basics of the back-end are done. 8)

Good, Phil.. good good work...

Took alpha 6 out for a workout today... Oh and Wife got us a "premium" membership at Geocaching.com Allowed us to batch download .gpx files ( pocket queries). Imports went well, export to XML went well. No functional issues. there is a litle learning curve in "reading the needles" but just takes a little practise.

Andrew, once we get mysticache to release version 1.0, perhaps we can start thinking of a way to provide an optional indicator where heading relative to direction of travel is fixed and both North and bearing are relative to direction of travel. More intuitve interface... Can wait for it, though..
