Importing old .ns1 files

Post by arizonajon »

I realized this weekend that I have a fair number of .ns1 files from before changing to the Win7 box. I tried to import one .ns1 file just now and received a file not supported error. I've attached it here. Any advice on what I need to do or whether I can upload this?

Vistumbler or the WifiDB don't support binary ns1 files like the one you attached.

There is a roundabout way you could do it with netstumbler and vistumbler, but its a bit of a pain

1.) Open your binary NS1 file in Netstumbler.
2.) Export it as a text file from Netstumbler (File -> Export -> Text)
3.) Import the text file into vistumbler as a "Netstumbler wi-scan file"
4.) Upload the file to the database through vistumbler or save the VS1 file to upload later

The only thing that kind of stinks with the old netstumbler files is the authentication and encryption information may be off, since in netstumbler the AP was either open or wep...which isn't always accurate

The output VS1 would look like the one attached

ahhh. Tricky. A lot of steps. However, let me see if I can find any interesting files from not too long ago. So far, it seems like all the stuff I did just before Vistumbler (2011-2014) has gone missing.
