New Feature: BlueNMEA(Android) GPS support

Post by ACalcutt »

Support for BlueNMEA has been added in Vistumbler v10 Beta 11 and above.

BlueNMEA is an Android application that lets you send the phones GPS data over bluetooth.

Vistumbler has been modified to work with the bluenmea application. This means that if you have a compatible android phone and a bluetooth adapter in your laptop you can use your phone as the source of GPS data.

Directions
(Phone)
1.) Download BlueNMEA from the market
2.) Pair your phone with your laptop in your bluetooth settings

(Laptop)
3.) Right click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray. Select "Open Settings"
4.) On the options tab check "Allow bluetooth devices to find this computer" (this can be changed back after connected)
5.) Click the "Com Ports" tab. If you do not already have a incoming com port, click add (Add a incoming connection, click ok). (Note this com port)
6.) In Vistumbler, set the GPS com port to the one from the above step

(Phone)
7.)Open BlueNMEA
8.)Click connect, It should find your laptop (mine comes up as FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF). Do not click this yet. If it does not find your laptop, go to your bluetooth options and scan for devices (then try again)

(Laptop)
9.)Click "Use GPS" in Vistumbler.

(Phone)
10.)within 10 seconds of clicking "Use GPS" in Vistumbler, pick your computer in the "Select a device to connect to list" in BlueNMEA (I would pick FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF)
11.)If all works as planned you should see a bluetooth status "connected with FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF"

Done, you are now using your phone to get gps data
