Your always welcome to ignore us ;-). We are just trying to get as many APs into out database as possible.

Its become our goal to map much of the world (yes yes...I know we are geeks). That is very hard to do by yourself. Phil and I have put a lot of work into doing this between vistumbler, the wifidb, and all the scanning we have done ourselves(I mean look at MA in out full DB dump...that was all us)

All participation in our project is voluntary, but we just think its cool to see all the APs around the world. The wifidb gives us an easy way to do that.

And Kentucky all mine.... Ummm.. I will try to remember how to upload directly... BTW wife and I are about to start geocaching againTeam mystic Zodiac ( www.geocaching.com) . expect to sniff the air along the way...

You all know how that goes.. every minute of scanning requires 5 of processing time

I wouldn't say every minute takes 5... but it definitely does take some time to get going when there are so many wires to hook up. I'm sure it takes you longer with your antenna setup :-)

Uploading to the wifidb is done here http://www.vistumbler.net/wifidb/import/. You can also upload your current vistumbler list using "Extra --> Upload Data to WiFiDB" (note: in older versions it is located in "Extra -> Phils WiFiDB")

BTW, We are beating you in APs :-P....but i guess we have been at it longer ;-)

actually, I am only using the one radio, so with the GPS and the comp's power cord, I am down to three wires. What I need is a good powered hub that I can keep the GPS and the radio plugged into to bring number of wires to hook up down to just one USB and one power cord for the comp. If I ever get another wrt54g router board, I hope to be able to go full wireless... But since I can only afford one project at a time...

Thanks for reminding me how to direct upload....

oh and I was meaning manual work... checking to see if all the scan saves worked right, check the data for messed up coords, exporting to KML for personal visualization of data.. all that good stuff.
