Export to NS1 in v10 Beta12

Post by gazzat5 »

doesnt work

here's the header of the produced file just to prove it

Code: Select all

# $Creator: Vistumbler v10 Beta 12
# $Format: wi-scan summary with extensions
# Latitude	Longitude	( SSID )	Type	( BSSID )	Time (GMT)	[ SNR Sig Noise ]	# ( Name )	Flags	Channelbits	BcnIntvl	DataRate	LastChannel
# $DateGMT: 2010-07-08
looks like it's exporting to 'wi-scan' whatever that it :(

Thats normal. Vistumbler only supports text NS1 because I haven't been able to figure our their binary format. This should still be compatible with netstumbler, so if you need a binary NS1 you can load into netstumbler and re-export

When I open it in netstumbler, it just says 'Unexpected file format'.
I'm positive it opened correctly in older versions though.

Yes, your file worked fine.
I had a quick compare and can't see any difference except that mine is huge 2mb, 16K lines it was on a wardrive that went for a couple of miles lol.
The gps was a bit screwed up too which would explain why some of the records have zeroed gps coordinates.

What do you make of it?
cheers

Well i found what the problem with the file is. Netstumbler does not like the file it because the BSSIDs are blank. So this seams to only happen if you are using native wifi mode (which shows no BSSID) or your netsh searchwords/language is set incorrectly.

Not sure how i can fix that for native wifi mode. I tried setting them all to ( 00:00:00:00:00:00 ) but it only loads one access point that way. I recommend using netsh mode since it has that data

What language is your version of windows?

There are two ways to set the netsh searchwords.

Method 1.) Change to a language pack that matches your windows language (Settings --> Set Language)

Method 2.) Manually change the netsh searchwords (Settings --> Set Netsh Search Words). You can try clicking the "Guess netsh searchwords" button. If this does not work, run the command "netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid" in command prompt.

you will get an output like this
C:\Users\ACalcutt>netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid

Interface name : Wireless Network Connection
There are 1 networks currently visible.

SSID 1 : wscwireless
Network type : Infrastructure
Authentication : Open
Encryption : None
BSSID 1 : 00:26:99:2d:55:80
Signal : 32%
Radio type : 802.11g
Channel : 1
Basic rates (Mbps) : 11
Other rates (Mbps) : 5.5 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54
Vistumbler uses the words before the ":" to get information. These should match what you have in the vistumbler netsh searchword settings

Ok, I tried guessing it on this machine and it exports to NS1 ok. I also updated.

I'll try on the other laptop and let you know. Shame to have lost those results though!
