Re: need help...........
With vistumbler you would just need to look at the channels that are being used and find one that is used the least and hope for the best. Insidder would probably be a better bet for you, since it can graph the channels that are being used around you. Maybe Andrew can add some more info that i cant ...

Is Auto-KML running in the backround?
If so and you have a ton of APs in your list, your CPU usage will start to go through the roof.
Even my laptop with the same specs (2.2Ghz CPU), does this with AutoKML.
To turn off the Auto-KML go to Options->AutoKML and make sure it is not checked.

Re: Newbie
I don't know why you would think that an OEM Wireless card is different from a retail one. I have never seen a wireless card that cannot connect to a hidden SSID AP.
As for the other part, I would recommend adding MAC filtering if you are worried about people connecting to a hidden or Secured AP.

Just curious what are you running for hardware?
KML file exports usually take a little bit.
Auto KML tends to really bogg down older hardware, even my Turion X64 at 2Ghz has a hard time with AutoKML lol

In just over a month there have been 25,000 APs added to the database.

The close GPS history button has been added to the bottom of each GPS table in the AP page.
The Co-Contributors part is going to take a little more time, its going to involve some reworking of the back end to support more then one user to an import.

Re: New To Vistumbler
The main reason Vistumbler is 'slower' at detecting APs is that Netstumbler didn't use windows to talk to the WiFi card, it just went strait to the hardware. Vistumbler uses the NetSH service in Windows Vista and 7, with some limited support for Windows native wireless in WinXP. The Atom is probably...
Re: Newbie
Vistumbler doesn't have an ability to actually connect to a wireless network, it just shows the output of NetSH in windows. I guess you could use it to see how far your signal is getting as to tell were people might be getting on from. But for more in-depth poking and prodding you would be better of...
