Looks like the culprit was the firewall at work, which, instead of blocking access to vistumbler.exe, let download it partially, corrupting the file.

Trees may cause a small amount of loss if they are in the Frensel zone of the beam.. But if they are in direct path, sure there will be a significant loss. Also expect some loss of signal in heavy rains. Onkly half a mile is no problem.. Biggest hurdle is getting the to directionals pointed squarely...
